Building an E-Scooter Battery Aftermarket with a National Distributor
A Vietnamese two-wheeler parts distributor built an e-scooter battery aftermarket business on EcoDyny LiFePO4 packs and chargers, using its existing dealer network for installation and service. The line gave dealers a higher-margin replacement product than the generic packs they had been fitting.

A national power-sports and two-wheeler parts distributor in Vietnam with regional warehouses and a dealer network of roughly 700 workshops and retail outlets.

The challenge
The distributor had watched e-scooter sales grow across Vietnam while the aftermarket battery business remained chaotic. Replacement packs arriving from various sources had inconsistent capacity, no usable warranty and no documentation in Vietnamese, so workshops fitted whatever was cheapest and dealt with the customer complaint later. Failures were frequent, and because the distributor's own brand was on the invoice, dissatisfaction landed on the dealer network rather than on the original supplier. At the same time the genuine replacement opportunity was large: the installed base of e-scooters was growing faster than authorised service capacity, and riders were replacing packs every 14 to 20 months. The distributor wanted to own that replacement cycle with a product it could stand behind, but it had no battery engineering capability, no local test bench and no way to validate incoming stock. It needed a manufacturing partner that would supply documented, consistent product and support the technical side of the business rather than just shipping cartons.

Our solution
EcoDyny became the distributor's battery supply and technical partner, providing ED-SC series LiFePO4 packs in the voltage and capacity configurations that cover the most common Vietnamese e-scooter platforms, together with matched chargers and a line of ED-BMS replacement boards. Every pack ships with a Vietnamese-language label carrying capacity, chemistry, charging parameters and a scannable serial tied to a warranty record, so workshops and end customers can verify what they are buying. The distributor received a commissioning and diagnostics training programme for its regional technical staff, an entry-level capacity test bench specification that it installed in its Hanoi warehouse, and a spare-parts and warranty process with defined turnaround. Packaging and warranty terms were adapted for the aftermarket channel, including a pack-level warranty the distributor administers locally rather than returning units across borders. EcoDyny also supported dealer training sessions in three cities, covering correct pack selection and the most common installation errors.

Results
Within two years the distributor established a battery line covering 480 of its dealer outlets and moved 21,000 replacement packs through the channel. Warranty return rate held at 1.8%, against an estimated 9% on the generic packs previously sold, and the distributor reported an average 34% gross margin on the line compared with 12% on generic replacements. Capacity verification at the Hanoi bench identified and rejected three batches that did not meet specification, which the distributor cited as the most valuable capability it gained. Dealer technical training reached 620 workshop staff, and the repeat purchase rate among trained dealers was 2.3 times that of untrained outlets. The distributor has since extended the range to higher-capacity packs for delivery fleets.

What we needed was not a cheaper pack, it was a product we could put our name on. Vietnamese labelling and a test bench in our own warehouse made that possible.
